Growing Up Malay in Kuala Lumpur
It's pretty cool being Malay growing up in our city. You get the greatest of both worlds - the energetic atmosphere and all the mouthwatering food, but also that strong sense of community and culture. It's not always easy, you know? Sometimes people don't understand our traditions or maybe they make funny assumptions about us. But overall, I wouldn't trade it for the world. There's so much pride in being Malay, especially when you see other kids like yourself doing well.
It's really awesome to see all the different aspects of our culture honored here. From occasions to tasty food stalls, it's always bustling. Plus, we have amazing community centers where everyone can come together and just relax.

Breakfast is hearty, usually nasi lemak or roti canai with chai. Her family gathers around the table, sharing stories and laughter before everyone heads off to their own activities. Amira walks to school with her friends, chatting about the latest gossip and sharing news.
School is a mix of interesting lessons. Amira excels in science, but she also enjoys music class. After school, she helps her mother with chores like washing dishes.
